Katie Blair Matthews

Katie Blair Matthews (b.1994) graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2016 with a first class BA (Hons) degree in Photography and now works as a freelance photographer based in Edinburgh. Following her graduation, she was awarded the UK Calumet Photographic Award for outstanding achievement.

 Themes concerning history and the environment play a prominent role in Katie’s personal photographic practice. Her current photographic project and research focuses on the history of Scotland’s landscape and how humans intervene in the regeneration and preservation of nature.

Her latest project Propagation has been exhibited in London, Singapore, Hong Kong and across Scotland and will feature as part of the Emerging Talent exhibition at Retina Photography Festival in June-July 2017.

Through research undertaken at her time in university, Katie has become fascinated in Scotland’s photographic history and her passion for photographic research and investigation has led her to work as a research assistant to photo historian and curator Alexander Supartono whose work focuses on colonial photography in Southeast Asia
